LANAO DEL NORTE, Philippines (December 7, 2018) – First District Representative of this province Congressman Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo on Wednesday calls on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to review cases filed against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commanders specifically to Abdullah Macapaar, known as “Commander Bravo”, ahead of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) plebiscite.

“Once the Bangsamoro Organic Law is enacted, especially after plebiscite on January, will or will not, these rebel commanders who have pending cases, should face the Justice system of the Philippine Government,”Congressman Dimporo said in the DOJ Budget Hearing in December 7 this year.

The revolutionary group MILF, which its commanders led in fighting to establish an autonomous region for the Moro peoples since 1970s, signed the peace deal between them and the Government to end rebellion in Mindanao certainly on January 21, 2019 BOL plebiscite.

BOL or known as Republic Act. 11054 will create the new Bangsamoro Parliamentary Government and provide for its basic structure of the government that will replace Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The BARMM is composed of the current ARMM – Tawi-Tawi, Sulu,Basilan, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur – and included the 6 municipalities of Lanao del Norte and 39 barangays of North Cotabato, respectively, previously voted to be included in the ARMM during the 2001 plebiscite under Republic Act No. 9054.

Dimaporo on July this year have strongly opposed the inclusion of the 6 towns of this province, 39 barangays of North Cotabato in the BARMM.

Dimporo also said in the budget hearing, “In the ground, in the field, in the region, there’s a misunderstanding or a miscommunication that the Bangsamoro Organic Law is also equitable or acquits to a get out of jail free card to some rebel commanders.”

Dimaporo counted the pending cases of Commander Bravo that has 19 in Lanao del Norte and 3 in Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Pasig City.

The DOJ confirms to continue processing the cases against MILF commanders and assures the quick review from 2010 to date that were filed against the commanders particularly to Commander Bravo.
