BOL, a bridge to peace and development

MARAWI CITY, LANAO DEL SUR (January 17, 2019) – The Office of Presidential Advisers on the Peace Process (OPAPP) held Wednesday a ‘peace assembly for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL)’ at Dimaporo Gymnasium, Mindanao State University in this city where groups of Ulama, traditional leaders, youth groups, Bishop and women gathered to support the advocacy of the BOL.

BOL conducting its plebiscite on January 21 and February 6 this year which allows, if ratified, Moro peoples in the country to start move towards self-governance, a bid to bring peace in Mindanao, which replaces Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, respectively includes 6 towns of Lanao del Norte, 6 towns of North Cotabato and cities Cotabato and Isabela, previously voted to be included in ARMM in the 2001 plebiscite under Republic Act No. 9054.

Former Armed Forces of the Philippines Peace Process Office head, now OPAPP Assistant Secretary Dickson Hermoso told the residents here, “although we knew the residents of Marawi and Lanao del Sur will vote yes [to BOL] but we are not complacent to visit here because you are the future,” he continued, “our vote for yes is not for aged but this is for the next generation.”

Marawi residents and the voters of this province conferred a positive outcomes of BOL and rate at least 99.9% will write down “Yes” on the ballot of BOL plebiscite in January 21, 2019.

Among the residents , Almani Abubacar who is leading a youth organization Lanao Youth Council (LYC) in this province, remarks that peoples must work for peace by doing their parts. He then said, “BOL is not a victory of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front nor the Government, it is the victory of peoples.”

“Voting in the plebiscite by ourselves is a notable work for peace building,” Abubacar told this writer in an interview.

It was sentiment when Asec Hermoso shared story on evacuating home akin to Marawi residents, he told Maranaos, “I was born Bangsamoro at Cotabato City 60 years ago, my parents were from Lanao and Cebu City who migrated, after the war, to Mindanao along with father of President Rodrigo Duterte.”

He added, “while joining with the military at age 14, I learned the ugliness of the armed conflict… our problem is ignorance, man-jousted poverty, injustices.”

BOL is a sincerity implementation by the government administration of President Duterte to confer the long-waited grand gesture of lasting peace in Mindanao.

In his part, Former General Carlito Galvez, now Secretary of the OPAPP, is bridging leaders towards peace in relating to Lanao del Norte 2nd District Representative Abdullah Dimaporo and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Abdullah Macapaar known as “Commander Bravo” who will working for peace and development, according to Hermoso.

Ending the peace rally, secretary of this province Aminoden Macalandap told the people that Governor Soraya Alonto Adiong with the municipal execs advocating BOL in Municipality of Wao.
