Two dead in Midsayap barangay hall attack

NORTH COTABATO — A barangay councilor and a community watchman were killed while three others were wounded in an attack in Midsayap town Thursday.

Macapagal Gumayao, and Garo Mangadta, a barangay tanod, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
Gumayao was an incumbent councilor in Barangay Nes in Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Superintendent Aldrin Gonzalez, spokesman of the Police Regional Office-12, said Friday their killers, armed with rifles and handguns, barged into the barangay hall while they were inside, opened fire and hurriedly escaped.

The attack left barangay chairman Kamarudin Mangadta, and two other tanods, Radzak Dimaloloy, and Sukarno Tatalo, wounded.

They are now confined in a hospital.

Gonzalez said personnel of the Midsayap municipal police are still trying to determine the exact identities of the culprits and their real motive for the attack.

The incident triggered panic among residents in Barangay Nes, where of clan wars involving heavily armed families, some identified with Moro secessionist groups, are prevalent.
